It was just after 1 in the afternoon and it was starting to get pretty hot, the beach was quickly getting busy with all the students that were off for the summer. People playing music, drinking beer, throwing footballs and all the other things that go on at the beach.
Jack was with a bunch of his old school friends having a few beers and cathing up, he hadn't seen most of them for a while, since the summer started and it was good to catch up even when some of them were acting a little off with him but that just came with being a suspected kidnapped I suppose. He still couldn't understand how any of his friends had landed a wiff of blame, everyone knew that all of them loved Abby, well maybe not Tiff but even with her want for the crown Jack doubted she could go as far as this. She didn't quite have it in her.
Some of the guys started to throw a football around and after necking the last of his beer Jack joined them. It didn't take long for one of the more, slightly drunk guys to throw the ball way to high for anyone to catch and it landed at the feet of an pretty little blond, no surprise Jack was the first to go and retrieve the ball.

OUTFIT Essence hadn't planned on a trip to the beach, but when one of her girlfriends insisted on it, Essy caved and went along with the plan. Now she was happy she had. It was a beautiful day even though it was a little warmer than she liked. The girls had just come from the water when a song came over a nearby radio and Essy grabbed the hand of one of the girls and they started dancing and laughing.
Usually Essence would have brought one of her sisters namely her baby sister, Ainsley. Ainsley and Essence had always been close, but she couldn't get a hold of Ains before being dragged off to the beach, so her baby sister would have to wait until next time. As the song ended the girls laughed together, and Essy felt something bump into the back of her leg. When she turned and looked it was a football. She picked up the ball and looked around spotting a dark haired man heading in her direction. The blonde turned to her friend, "I'll be right back. Mkay?" and turned towards the man with a smile.
Walking through the sand, Essy met the man halfway and smiled. "You know... If you wanted to talk to me, all you had to do was say hi. You don't have to throw stuff at me." the blonde said jokingly. She smiled as she handed the ball out to him.

It wasn't like most of the guys hadn't already noticed the group of girls just a little down the beach from them, they were all pretty hot but for Jack there was one that stuck out from the others so it was just ironic that it was her that the ball hit, ironic or lucky. Not that he needed an excuse to go and talk to her but it just worked in his favour this way.
He smiled as she walked towards him and stiffed a small laugh at her comment. "Actually, it was that guy there who's throwing stuff at you. He said pointing out the drunk who had thown the ball so far out. You should be thanking yourself its me thats come over and not him, he'd either fall over on top of you or he'd be slurring a load of nonsence to you all day. He warned her with a smirk. "I'm Jack" He introduced himself, it wasnt like he was just going to just go back to throwing a football around over talking to her.

OUTFIT She had seen the guys playing football earlier and she knew that some had been drinking a bit too heavily for her tastes, but whatever. To each their own, she thought to her self. Essy smiled and pushed her dark sunglasses up on top of her head. She chuckled when he pointed out who had actually thrown the ball. The drunken man was laying on the sand and didn't look to be moving anytime soon. Essence just laughed. "Well then i guess i should be saying 'thank you'." she said with a cute smile. He introduced himself as Jack. A common males name. Nothing like her own bizarre name she'd been landed with.
She returned the introduction, "I'm Essence." Essy prepared herself for the question that usually came next. Usually after hearing her name the next thing said was really? Yes really... her name was Essence and yes it was a weird name, but it was her name and she had eventually grown to love it.

Jack had to hold back a joke that came to mind when she said his name. He definatly didn't know her well enough to act like he did with his friends, throwing sarcastic insults around like there was no tomorrow. She'd probably get pissed off and slap him or offended and she seemed like she was the kind of girl that might just out right slap him. He'd rather like to avoid that if he could.
Instead he went for a less offensive and more complimentry "Essence? That's a name you don't hear very often, pretty though" Cheesy yes but he was lost for anything else to say to that. "Are you from around here then?" He asked, he wasn't sure why but he was just a little lost when it came to words recently no matter who he was talking to he didnt seem to have that same charm he usually did. Maybe it was just that he had so much on his mind recently.

OUTFIT The look on Jack's face after Essy introduced herself screamed that he had a less than sweet comeback in mind for her. But he bit his tongue and steered the conversation into a nicer direction. Essy smiled at his compliment. "Thank you, most people look at me funny or ask if I'm joking when they hear my name." She said with a chuckle. She ran a free hand through her still damp blonde hair.
She then continued to answer his next question, "No, I'm originally from New York. My dad moved me and my sisters here when I was a kid, after my mom died." A hint of sadness darkened her features at the mention of her mother. That day still laid with her and haunted her. Essence had to concentrate on pushing the memories out of her mind. A smile creeped back onto her face. "But I've been here for a while now. What about you?" Essy tossed the football to him and took a few steps back. If they were going to stand here and talk, she may as well have fun doing it. Holding her hands in front of her, she waited for him to toss the ball back.
