Justin had been looking for a new job all day and it wasn't going well, not so far anyway. He had gone to pretty much every garage an so far none were looking for a mechanic, so it looked like he was going to have to find something a little more out of his usual.
It was lunch time when he finally gave up the search for a while and headed to the diner. He already missed home, it just wasn't the same here, as much as that was stating the obviouse he just missed everything about his hometown, he missed all the little things, missed knowing almost everyone he walked past, missed heat, the constant smell of meat cooking on a bbq in half the gardens, he missed his friends and his family, his old job, his old car, his bike. Everything.

Rachel was starving. She'd skipped breakfast this morning and she had barely made it this far. She was trying to save up for her own bike so she wouldn't always have to use her dad's one. Not like their trailer really had room for two bikes in it plus them... She grabbed what cash she had and jammed it into her pocket before she left the house, walking to the diner from 'home'. Though for her, home was a state of mind, not a place. She'd lived on the road for most of her life, like a gypsy. Just her and her dad.
Rachel went in and sat at the counter. She didn't mind being alone. Girls had never been easy for her to communicate with considering she was raised by her dad. She was a tomboy. Rach could hold her liquor, drive a motorcycle, fix a car... some guy couldn't handle that either. So far this town was full of rich people who stared at her tattoos. She made a slight effort to cover them today--Not that she really cared what people thought of her. Rachel was always a little more careful when she was new to a place. She relied on her hair to cover the star on the back of her neck, and figured the part of her new vine that crept outside the edge of her tank top would be allowable.
ooc- so i think they should be pals, you should read rach's app

It was around lunch time so the diner was pretty busy, most of the tables were taken so Justin just headed for the counter "Don't mind if I sit here do you?" He said in his think Australian accent, slowing down his words. It had become a habit, Americans had trouble catching every word he said when he spoke at his normal speed, the accent got in the way quite a lot as much as they seemed to like it around here, he didn't really see the appeal. He did love seeing the baffled looks when he used his lingo on them, sometimes it was like he was speaking some crazy other language.
He took the seat next to her before she really answered, there was no where else along the counter where he could have sat and he doubted she'd tell him to get lost. It wasn't like he was creepy looking and he was pretty sure he didn't smell. They were the only 2 reasons he could think were visable for her to say no to him. Well the only 2 off the top of his head anyway.

At first Rachel didn't realize that the words were being directed at her until the voice had sat beside her already. "Not at all." She said with a smile a few seconds too late, as he was already easing himself in beside her. She could tell her wasn't around here either, which was nice. Her accent was a pretty strong Southern drawl but given that she'd lived everywhere, she was just a mix of accents that made no sense at all. She made no effort to keep track of which slang went where or what was common to which place. Too much trouble.
"Where ya from?" She asked him, being friendly. She had no trouble with new people, she'd never known anyone who wasn't new, for the most part. "I can tell you ain't from here." Rachel said flagging the waitress for some more iced tea. She had already ordered her cheeseburger, still waiting for it.

It wasn't just a comunication issue with the americans, he had his moments when he looked at them totally lost, he had a slight accent barrier, but he was slowly getting better at the whole thing. "Thanks" He said before briefly telling the waitress he wanted a cheese burger and chips fries. "Queensland, Australia. I moved here like a week ago." He smiled proudly, he loved where he was from. "How bout's you? You ain't from round ea' right?" He said watching what he said, there was so much more slang that no one understands from down under than there was for the whole of the states. English slag was bad but Aussie was even more complicated.

Australia, now that was exotic. She wondered what it was like there. She'd only ever barely left the country before, short trips to Mexico mostly, one excursion to Canada, but otherwise, it was the continental US for her. She realized he must ahve flown here in an airplane. She'd never been on one.
"I ain't from anywhere," Rachel said with a little smile, sticking her straw in her mouth and taking a long sip of ice tea. "Could say I'm a gypsy," She added with a little shrug as if it were the most normal thing in the world to be. of course for her, it was, but she knew normal people never got it.
"Home's a state 'a mind, I'm sure you'll get used to the place." Of course, rachel had never really missed a home, leaving was natural. It had to be different for him.

Traveling had always been a big thing for Justin, he loved going away, but when it came to traveling he always knew he was going home at the end of it, always knew he could go home, something he couldn't do. Not anymore. Home wouldn't be home ever again.
Instead of finding it odd, Justin found the fact that she moved about intresing "Really? That ace! Well, i mean I love traveling so living on the road sounds pretty cool" He could see its flaws of course, always moving around meant always having to leave places and people behind, unsettling and he could see how other people would back away from that sort of thing but he found it quite endering. "I'm Justin, by the way." He introduced himself feeling rude realising he hand't done so yet.
He had a feeling she found it odd that he wasn't hitting on her, she was pretty beautiful but he had a way of not falling into that like practically every other guy on the planet. He wasn't like many other guys, he was useless with girls when he saw them the way most guys did, he turned into a shy blabbering idiot. Only with pretty girls let he let himself decide he thought were hot, if he didn't let himself think that way it was fine.

"I'm Rachel," She said shaking his hand firmly. Rachel liked that he thought her life style was cool. She had always thought so, and she got to see everything and be with her best friend all the time. Granted, her best friend was her dad and she had mostly dead beat relationships if they lasted that long. But hey, she was happy with her life.
Being friends with guys came easily to her, girls were the hard ones. Honestly, she didn't give a damn about other girls. She liked to hang with boys, date boys. Girly girls were just a waste of her time. Rachel's cheeseburger came and after putting on condiments, she took a huge bite and chewed it thoughtfully. No one could accuse her of being lady like, but that didn't matter to her.
Once she had swallowed she said, "So what brings you here? You're an awful long way from home."

The hand shake was pretty formal for Justin, it wasn't really his kind of thing, Ausies were always know for their laid back way of life. Justin remered many interviews where he had been greeted with a high five and a shoulder bash, and that was for a bank job.
Justin was good at being friends with most people, he was general and easy going, likeable person when you got past his accidental rudness, he just didn't think before he spoke and often just said things that pissed people off or offended them. He never meant any harm, he just had no watershed when it came to what he said.
"I just needed a change, I got sick of the same place, I've lived in the same town my whole life so I just kinda, went on a whim and uped sticks." He lied but he lied well. He wasn't aloud to tell anyone why he had really moved, only his parents knew and his older of his two sisters. Oh, and the cops. But there was no way in hell he could tell this random girl he had just met why he was so far away from home really. "Any reason you stopped here of all places?" He asked, subtle change of subject.

Needing a change was a perfect reason to leave a place and Rachel didn't question it at all. Perfectly natural to want a change. She just nodded while he spoke.
"Nah, no reason." Rachel said. They were pretty haphazard about where they went next. Sometimes someone would suggest a place, some times they would close their eyes and point at a map, sometimes they'd just drive and take whatever exits they felt like. No rhyme or reason. It was always an adventure.
Frankly though, she didn't like Richmond much at all and part of her wanted to move on already, but they needed the cash her pops was making. She should probably have gotten a job too but normally he did the work and she took care of meeting locals and making dinner. Rachel was a fairly good cook.
"What about you? Why Richmond?"

So far Justin wasn't a huge fan of Richmond, he didn't like many of the people. Almost all of them had been rich stuck ups, or agressive rude snappy machanics. Nothing like every happy go lucky person (except that grumpy old guy that lived in the apartment below his) back in his home town.
Justin shrugged," I just picked a random flight number and it just happened to be a flight to here. To be honest I think Califonia would have been a bit more suitable, or even better; Hiwai. " He had to say, Richmond wasn't really a hot spot for surfing really. And surfing was the one thing he loved more than anything else. his life revolved around surfing, or it had done.

Rachel nodded a little. "Well, why don't you go there then?" There was no reason to stay in a place you hated. Granted, she didn't like Richmond either, but her dad got a job at the auto shop and those jobs never lasted too long, so this was just another stop on their life long road trip.
She took another bite of her cheeseburger and chewed it carefully. If he was going to be adventurous enough to just pick a place, why didn't he keep moving, find a place he liked the best? He seemed the settling type. Who stayed forever in a place they didn't like much?
