Darren was sitting in the coffee bean with his laptop, using up all the wifi he could. He hadn't really socialized with people much since his beloved Abigail went missing. He was taking it abnormally hard. After all, he did love the girl. She never really noticed him as more than a friend though. Friend was better than nothing though.
His Ipod was plugged, and his ear phones rang his favourite song, Getting Away With Murder. It probably wasn't the most appropriate song given the situation at hand, but he didn't really care what other people thought, never had.

WEARINGAvery had been on a walk just moments before trying to figure out what she could do today. A million ideas had gone through her head, one of them to being to go and see Abigail, however that had stopped her short. Abby was missing, no one knew where she had gone, and people were saying she was dead. Avery refused to believe this, and as if to drown out the thoughts she turned up her iPod and listened to a song she wasn't even sure she knew anymore. Giving up on the walking she went into the coffee bean sighing heavily to herself. Normally she came here with her laptop to get wifi and do work away from the crowds in the library, but today she just wanted to sit and think. The cashier gave her a little wave which she returned before she saw Darren, and instantly hurried over to where he sat. Pulling out a head phone she quickly tapped him on the shoulder and waited for him to lookup. If there was one person in this world who wanted to find Abby and had the means to more then the police, it was him.

Darren jumped when he felt someone tap his shoulder and spilled his drink all over his lap. Sneaking up on the boy was a poor choice to say the least. He was always on edge, like he'd had too much coffee.
"Wish that hadn't been hot," he said to himself and walked over to the counter, grabbing a bunch of napkins and dubbed himself off. After he'd cleaned up he finally looked to see who had scared him. It was Avery. A friend of Abby's, therefore a friend of his.
"Hello Avery," he said and then sat back down in his seat. he was never good at talking to girls, well, anyone really. He was a loner. Awkward was his middle name.

WEARINGWhen he jumped and spilled his hot drink on himself she instantly covered her mouth and felt terrible. She felt terrible for scaring him like that and instantly wished she could take it back. that was happening a lot lately, her wishing that she could take things back. Maybe it wasn't all her fault, maybe he was just on edge, it seemed to be happening to a lot of people these days. "I am so sorry, I'll buy you a new drink," she said quietly watching him walk over and clean himself. She smiled when he looked over at her, a meek smile, she wasn't sure if he was going to be angry with her. Of course it had been an accident, she really hadn't meant to scare him. From now on she needed to think these kinds of things through before she did things. "Hi Darren, sorry again," she said lightly. After seeing him sit down she followed suit and sat down next to him. She figured that she didn't really need an invitation, she considered Darren a friend through association. She knew things after all. "What have you been up to?"

Darren closed the pictures on his laptop and looked up at Avery. He didn't really know how to talk to people well. He was awkward, especially with girl. he just didn't seem to get people. He'd rather be in his room, reading or doing stuff on his computer.
"Nothing," he said as he turned his music off. "How have you been?" He asked and looked up at her once more. It was hard for him to keep eye contact.

WEARINGAvery watched as he shut his laptop and shut off his iPod. She wondered if he was trying to hide something, and then just shrugged it off. Who in this town wasn't hiding some secret? She knew for a fact that she had her fair share of secrets, and she knew how she felt when she thought someone would find it out. No one could know her secrets, no one could know about the things that she knew, because that would be messing with a missing girl, possibly dead girls, image. "Nothing really," she said. "Just trying to come to grips with this all you know?" She saw him trying to keep eye contact and wished she had a cup to fiddle with to alleviate some of the awkwardness that she felt. Of course there was plenty of things that she could have fiddled with if she really tried, but she would rather have eye contact. It was a sort of security blanket for her.

"No, I don't," Darren said awkwardly shaking his head, and gave a small nervous laugh. She wasn't having a hard time with anything. Maybe it was the fact that he had yet to actually believe what everyone was saying.
He cracked his neck and looked up at Avery, but only for a moment before looking back down at the table. He did like Avery, but he was still uncomfortable. He was uncomfortable with everyone though.

WEARINGAvery shot him a look. "You aren't trying to settle with the thought that she's missing? I mean I refuse to believe that she'll never come home, but I'm done thinking she just ran off." It truly had been something that Avery had tried to convince herself. The girl had told herself over and over that Abby would be back, that she had simply run off to find some adventure and that she would be back when she found what she was looking for. Looking up she saw that Darren continued to not make eye contact with her. Hearing his neck crack she smiled, that was a sound she was familiar with. Her own father used to crack his neck, receiving a playful slap on the wrist from her mother. Avery shook herself out of her thoughts and leaned forward on the table some. She wished she had something to say to Darren. Suddenly she sighed. "I don't shot lazer beams from my eyes if you look at me you know. Contrary to some beliefs I'm not Medusa, my look doesn't turn men to stone." No one had actually said that about her, but they'd said enough mean things to last her a life time anyway.
